      Description

Futuremark is going to release their new 3DMark for Windows 8 next month. There are a total of 4 new presets including DX9, DX10, DX11 Performance and DX11 Entry. Adding all of them would be nice, but I think it will make the benchmark list too long. We should investigate how we can present the benchmark selection at HWBOT in a better way.

Attached are some pictures. If this gets public, we're screwed so ... please ... don't :).

How important is it to add all the different type of benchmarks? If I look at 3dmark11 submissions: 10k performance, 1k entry, 1.4k extreme. Seems to me people will mainly run DX11 performance. If they want to run DX9, well... run another benchmark :D.

You're right if we add all of them that we should think about a new way to present the benchmarks (grouping them together), and that would require quite some redesigning I think.

The benchmarks that generate points will be more popular, always. That's why Xtreme and Entry are not that popular.

I like having all benchmarks up there, because then we're still hosting the semi-official rankings for them. Otherwise people have an incentive to visit the Futuremark website.

In the database we do have the option to set a parent_application, so the structure is there. I'm just not sure how we should visually do it. Preferably, having a nice breakdown would give people the incentive to run all benchmarks - not just those that generate points.

As far as I see, the conclusion of the spike is:

          1) add the benchmark that MSI wants to hold a competition with as hidden
          2) apply wait-and-see policy for the other benchmarks to see if there's an interest from the community to use the new 3Dmark
          3) check with the designer how to visually improve the overview of the (many) benchmarks we have now

MSI will hold a competition in December.

          Anything I missed?
